I gave up on giving any kind of party years ago and don't care and am shameless. It's nice to be invited to one but as for giving one....no. I think it's hard to be partnerless but on some level equally as hard to have one. I'm all for people helping me clean, cook, and can say "no" when necessary as it's better than being angry at yourself for saying "yes". If someone asks me if I can do them a favor I always ask, it is before I say yes. I will say at this point in life friends are the best bet. Yep keep your friends close and feed them when necessary but always pot luck. Be careful with that back and stretch!

Oh geez, can I relate to this one: "Surprise" 30th birthday party for my then-husband. The ruse to get him out of the house so I could clean and cook backfired and I ended up locked in the bathroom, hysterical, screaming, "You HAVE to leave!" Then cleaning the house like a maniac and greeting the guests an hour later with my dirty hair plastered to my face, wearing filthy sweatpants and holding a toilet brush. Not exactly what I'd envisioned. The first, and last, surprise party I ever hosted.

Team of one here. Former party thrower. I've turned to potluck after realizing that my team of one can't handle the stress anymore. And, it's ok. The impromptu potlucks have been quite some fun, for the guests and for me. Welcome to the potluck club, Laura.

Less about team of one or two, here. More about the connections and heartful conversation when three or four others gather - potluck or otherwise, Martha Stewart unplugged! I only have six chairs at my dining room table for a reason : ) And because my musical talents exist only in my imagination, a good bluetooth speaker on the counter.

Joy is giving up the have to's in exchange for the get to's.
