I gave up on giving any kind of party years ago and don't care and am shameless. It's nice to be invited to one but as for giving one....no. I think it's hard to be partnerless but on some level equally as hard to have one. I'm all for people helping me clean, cook, and can say "no" when necessary as it's better than being angry at yourself for saying "yes". If someone asks me if I can do them a favor I always ask, it is before I say yes. I will say at this point in life friends are the best bet. Yep keep your friends close and feed them when necessary but always pot luck. Be careful with that back and stretch!

Oh geez, can I relate to this one: "Surprise" 30th birthday party for my then-husband. The ruse to get him out of the house so I could clean and cook backfired and I ended up locked in the bathroom, hysterical, screaming, "You HAVE to leave!" Then cleaning the house like a maniac and greeting the guests an hour later with my dirty hair plastered to my face, wearing filthy sweatpants and holding a toilet brush. Not exactly what I'd envisioned. The first, and last, surprise party I ever hosted.
